A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, December 6, 2017 for Tracy native and lifelong resident, Donald Matthew Quintana, who passed away from natural causes at his home in Tracy, California. He was 81 years of age.
Don was born in a house on Third Street which still stands today, the oldest of six boys born to Tony and Vera Quintana. He began working at the age of 12 at various local stores including The Hub which was located next door to the Grand Theater. That is where he met Stella Santos when she brought in her brother, Frankie, to buy a swim suit. They were married in 1954. They raised three children, all born at Tracy Hospital and all delivered by Dr. John Kimball. All three also attended St. Bernard’s Catholic School and Tracy High School. Don was a 1953 graduate of Tracy High School and a obtained a Bachelor’s degree from Cal State Hayward by attending night classes. He retired in 1991 from the State of California after 31 years of service with the Department of Corrections and Youth Authority where he served as a Correctional Officer, Youth Counselor, Parole Agent, and Program Administrator. In retirement, Don also spent a number of years working with Tracy youth at The Richard O. Hastie Boys and Girls Club. His hard work, determination, and commitment to family always inspired his children and grandchildren to do the same.
Don enjoyed RV’ing especially at Pismo Beach and was an active member of the Big Valley Sam’s RV Club for many years. He was also a member of the St. Bernard’s Dads Club and Tracy Moose Lodge. Don was an avid Lakers and Dodgers fan from Brooklyn to Los Angeles. He was also a Tracy High Football fan since his high school days and attended all in town and out of town games for many years. This year, he was able to attend one Freshmen football game to see his youngest grandchild play for the Green and Gold. Don was a loving and dedicated father and grandfather who supported his children and grandchildren in all their endeavors. Through the years, he also provided much love and support to many nieces and nephews.
Don is survived by his wife of 63 years Stella, a daughter, Virginia Cornell and husband Brett; a son, Tony Quintana and wife Erin; two grandsons, Cameron Cornell and Elijah Quintana, all of Tracy; a granddaughter Terri Juarez of Stockton, and grandson Marcus McKinney of Wadsworth, Ohio. Also two brothers, Rudy Quintana of Stockton and Richard Quintana of Roseville. He was preceded in death by his parents Tony and Vera Quintana, a son, Donald Anthony Quintana, and three brothers, Charles Quintana, Jack Quintana, and Arthur Quintana.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made in his memory to St. Bernard’s New Church Building Fund at 163 W. Eaton Ave., Tracy, CA 95376.
