Margaret C. Rore passed away on October 28, 2017. She was born in Stockton California on December 1st 1929 to Dr. and Mrs. Wesley Chalmers. She attended El Dorado Elementary School and graduated from Stockton High School. She went on to earn a BA from UC Berkeley in 1952. It is here that she met and married her husband of 48 years, Dr. Walter J. Rore. After graduation Margaret and Walter moved to San Francisco where he attended UOP School of Dentistry and she began her career as a teacher in Hunters Point. After her husband’s graduation from dental school Margaret and Walter returned to Stockton where they worked tirelessly setting up their dental practice. Margaret continued her teaching career with Stockton Unified and worked for her husband in the evenings. After retiring from teaching to become a full time mother, she went on to become the office manager for her and her husband’s practice and then began managing the family’s walnut and cherry orchards.
Margaret was very active in her community, loved spending time with her family, traveling, and playing Bridge. She served on the Stockton Dental Auxiliary, the San Joaquin County Central Committee, was a secretary and president of the Lincoln Elementary School PTA, and appointed by Governor Pete Wilson to the area IV Board for the Developmentally Disabled. She also volunteered as a 4-H Leader, a Haggin Museum docent, and as a Lady in Pink for the St. Joseph’s Medical Center Auxiliary. She was a member of the Philomatheon Club, the PEO, and a past president of the Stockton Republican Women Federated. A lifelong member of St. John’s Episcopal Church, she served as a Sunday school teacher, a member of the vestry, and belonged to the Daughters of the King. In her later years, Margaret loved spending time with her grandchildren, whether listening to them sing, watching them play basketball, building Legos, or just sitting with them, she always had warm hugs and encouraging words ready.
Margaret is survived by her son Dr. James L. Rore (Laura), her daughter Anne Martin (Philip) her grandchildren: Jessica Rore Rankin (Dan), Katherine Rore, Mariah and Sierra Looney, Philip and Armando Martin, Christopher Piro, and by her great grandson Dashiell Rankin. Margaret will always be remembered for her elegance, her sense of style, her humor, her dedication to loved ones and her love of politics. She will be greatly missed, but lives on in our hearts forever.
