Pritpal Kaur Grewal

Pritpal Kaur Grewal was born in the village of Chhiniwal Khurd (nanke) in Punjab, India. She grew up in the village of Jai Singh Wala, in the Moga District. She studied at Khalsa School Moga and Firozpur. She graduated from a women’s college in Lahore.

She married Professor Tilok Singh Grewal on December 28, 1943. They lived in Lyallpur until 1947, and after partition moved to Rohtak. They later lived in Moga, Amristar, & Ludhiana, before settling in the town of Raikot in the Ludhiana District. She worked as a teacher and health educator. She assisted in the research of the Khanna Study conducted by Harvard University on the population problems in rural Punjab.

In 1976, Pritpal moved with her family to Surrey, British Columbia, Canada. After moving she traveled and lived with her three sons and their families in Surrey, B.C.; Edmonton, Alberta; and Tracy, California. She moved permanently to Tracy in April of 2007.

She is survived by six children, sixteen grandchildren, and twenty-two great grandchildren. She was also deeply loved by her children’s and grandchildren’s spouses.

Pritpal was known to all as Biji, which is the Punjabi word for Mother. She was a devout Sikh, and relied on her faith throughout her life.

A Prayer Service will be held at Fry Memorial Chapel on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at 10:00 am, with viewing beginning 1 hour prior.
