Alfredo "Dito" Mendez

April 26, 2001 ~ November 13, 2017 (age 16) 16 Years Old

Alfredo "Dito" Mendez, always known as Dito to his family and friends was born on April 26, 2001 and passed away November 13, 2017 at the young age of 16. A horrible moment in time took him from us far too soon. Our hearts are broken forever. Dito was born at Kaiser Permanente Hospital in Redwood City, CA. He spent his life growing up in the Bay Area and touching everyone along the way with his kindness and generosity.

In his younger years he played lots of sports, soccer, football, and basketball to name a few. He loved watching the Golden State Warriors, the 49ers and the SF Giants. He and his family went to the SF Giants celebration and parade when they won the 2012 World Series, one of many events they attended throughout his life.

He loved the outdoors  if it was adventurous he tried it and loved it and went all for it. Every year he enjoyed an annual camping trip with his family where he could ride ATVs and Dirt bikes. He loved surfing, he and his Dad would go to Santa Cruz, Half Moon Bay and Pacifica together where he and his Dad learned to surf together, yes his father took up surfing at the age of 40 so he could do it with his son. He loved the ocean, his Mom once asked him if he was afraid of the sharks, he said nope this is where they belong, I'm in their territory. He enjoyed fishing with his Dad, Uncles, cousins, and his brother in law.

He was passionate about all living things, having many different reptiles and small animals, oh and yes he had a tarantula. His beloved dog King was always by his side, his master will be deeply missed by him. He loved plants and he researched everything about them. He enjoyed being with his Grandpa in the garden. They learned a lot from each other.

In 2015 he traveled to Israel with his Grandma and visited his Aunt, Uncle and cousins. Truly a visit he would never forget. He spent time in the Old City of Jerusalem and experienced the Church of the Holy Sepulchre and the Al asqa Mosque, two of the holiest sites in the Catholic and Islamic religions. He was so special to everyone in his family.

He is survived by his loving Father and Mother, Alfredo and Nicole Mendez, his sisters Amerah Bustamante (Octavio Jr.) and Marina Mendez. He was adored by his Grandparents Steve and Jill Chaaban and Alfredo and Marina Mendez. He is also survived by  many loving Aunts, Uncles, cousins, a niece and a nephew. You will always be with us in our hearts and missed forever. We love you Dito.
