Catherine Jo Fisher
January 11, 1972 ~ September 1, 2023 (age 51) 51 Years Old
Catherine (Cathy) Jo Fisher, a remarkable soul who touched the lives of many, peacefully concluded her journey on September 1, 2023, after valiantly facing a 19-month battle with brain cancer. She was born in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, on January 11, 1972, to her beloved parents, Richard and Mary Wood. She is the youngest of seven siblings, dear sister of Marina (Jim) Lounds, Howard (Theresa) Wood, Ann (Steve) Scharrer, Jane (Jeff) Freeborn, Mike Wood, and Jim (Julie) Wood.
Cathy’s life was a tapestry of achievements, compassion, wit and humor. After graduating from Michigan Tech University with a BS in Technical Writing, she ventured to California in 1995, where she spent five years at PeopleSoft in Pleasanton. Later, she embarked on a decade-long journey at St. Bernard's School in Tracy, imparting her wisdom and passion for Computer Technology to countless young minds. Three years at Blue Shield in Lodi followed, reflecting her commitment to making a difference.
The heart of Cathy’s world revolved around her cherished family. Her marriage to John Fisher, a union that recently celebrated 25 years, was a testament to enduring love and companionship. As a devoted mother, she raised their two daughters, Anna and Sadie Fisher, with immeasurable love and selflessness. Cathy cherished time spent with family and friends playing board games and cards.
Cathy’s interests painted a vibrant canvas of her personality. An accomplished cook, avid baker, and talented clarinet player, she embraced life's flavors and melodies. Her green thumb found solace in gardening, while her spirit soared with cycling, including a bicycle tour of Tuscany, Italy, in 2012. Adventurous by heart, she found joy in camping, fishing, hiking, and backpacking.
Her commitment to community was a hallmark of Cathy’s life. A devout Catholic, she dedicated herself to various ministries, including prayer groups, teaching CCD, and the church choir. She reached out to those in need through acts of kindness, often arranging meal trains to provide comfort. The St. Mary's High School Theatre was graced by her talent, as she sewed intricate costumes that brought characters to life.
Cathy’s essence was a symphony of qualities that inspired all who knew her. A devoted wife and mother, she placed the needs of her loved ones above her own. Her heart of gold and gentle nature left an indelible mark on family and friends, enriching their lives with her kindness.
A celebration of Cathy’s life will be held on Monday, September 11th, at 1 pm, at St. Bernard's Church in Tracy, CA. Following the mass, a reception will follow, the details of which will be shared in the funeral program.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorial contributions be made to https://glioblastomafoundation.org. These donations will support others facing the challenges of this rare form of cancer, reflecting Cathy’s enduring spirit of generosity and compassion.
Cathy’s presence will forever remain in our hearts, a beacon of love and light that continues to guide us. She has left an indelible mark on the world, and her memory will be cherished eternally.
