Consuelo ‘Connie’ Chavez passed away peacefully on January 5, 2021 at the age of 85. Connie was born in Fresno, California on November 11, 1935 to Tomas and Josephine Contreras. She was married on July 15, 1954 to her sweetheart Ronnie Chavez Sr. and then moved to Tracy, California in 1959 where she and her husband happily raised their 8 children.
Connie quickly became a homemaker while Ronnie worked in the fields in northern Tracy. Her children soon grew into adults and started their own families while she became ‘Grandma Chavez.’ She lost her beloved husband in 1990 and spent the remaining years of her life finding new ways to have fun. Connie’s biggest joys were gambling (bingo, keno and penny slots), visiting her family in Brawley, CA, dancing and drinking tequila, and watching NCIS and Blue Blood. She spent her final years living with her grandson, his wife and their children, teaching them about life and cooking.
She is survived by her children Elizabeth Chavez-Stroh (Danny), Arthur Chavez, Thomas Chavez (LaVonne), Laura MacDonald (Brian), Louisa Sparks (Mark), Patricia Black and Theresa Robles, 19 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren, three sisters, three brothers and many other beloved family members. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Ronald Chavez Sr. and son Ronald Chavez, Jr.
She was a devoted member of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church and will lovingly be remembered by all family and friends.
A private service will be held in the coming week at Fry’s Memorial Chapel and a celebration of life will be held in the summer.
