Daniel George Hobbs, 75, of Tracy, California, passed away on Tuesday, April 19, 2022. He was born on October 6, 1946 to Elizabeth Muhlenkamp Hobbs and Daniel John Hobbs. Dan is survived by his wife Irma Hobbs, his daughters Barbara Hobbs and Jennifer Helms, son-in-law, Fred Ronald Helms III “Trey” and Grandson Fred Ronald Helms IV “Ford”, his brother Jack Hobbs, sister Joan Smith, cousin Steve Hobbs, and dog Teddy. Dan was preceded in death by his son, Daniel R. Hobbs, sister Sharon Hobbs, mother Elizabeth Hobbs, and father Daniel J. Hobbs.
Dan was born in Dayton, OH. He graduated from the University of Dayton with an M.A. Degree in Public Administration and an M.A. Degree in Urban Planning. He was a former international representative for city management where he served in official delegations to Japan, West Germany, and Poland. He served as city manager in seven U.S. cities over a 44 year career, three of which Dan served as City Manager of Tracy.
Dan was a dearly beloved husband, father, brother, and cousin. He was a true blessing to his family. Outside of city management, Dan had a passion for writing. He was an active member of California Writers Club San Joaquin Valley and Tri-Valley Branch. Dan has been published in three anthologies.
Fry Memorial Chapel, 550 South Central Avenue, is honored to serve the Hobbs family. A Mass will be held in his honor at 11:00am on Wednesday, May 4, 2022, at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, 163 W. Eaton Avenue, Tracy.
The Hobbs family looks forward to his loving embrace in the Christian Resurrection and requests prayers from all denominations. In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family requests memorial contributions made in Dan’s name to Tracy Interfaith Ministries, which provides emergency services to the needy, P.O.
