Erline June Snider, 84, of Mountain House, California, died Wednesday, March 23, 2022 in Stockton, California. She would have been 85 on October 24th of this year.
Erline was born on October 24, 1937 in St. Louis, Missouri. She was the wife of late John Milton Snider, Jr. They celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary on June 30, 2012. Leslie Everett Payne and Essie Ellen (nee Lunceford) were entrusted by God with their daughter whom they named Erline June Payne.
Erline grew up in Webster Groves, Missouri with her two brothers Rev. Dr. John B. Payne and Thomas Byrd Payne. She went by the name, June, which she preferred to her given name, Erline. Erline attended Webster Groves High School in Webster Groves, Missouri, class of 1956. During her time there, she was a member of the Red Cross, Library Assistants, Dramatics Club, Pep Club, Basketball, Volleyball, Softball, earned a spot on the Girls Athletic Association; and lastly, was a member of Christian organization sponsored by the YMCA: Tri Hi Y. After graduating, she attended William Woods College in Fulton, Missouri.
On June 30, 1962, John and Erline were married at The Lutheran Church of our Savior in Cupertino, California. To their union, two children were born: daughter, Katherine Lesley in 1965 and son, Daniel Philip in 1971. She devoted herself as a loving and caring homemaker until 1982. In 1982, she worked as a Secretary for S & S Bookkeeping of Santa Clara, California. In 1986, John and Erline took over an existing tax practice in Menlo Park, California until John retired in 1992. In 1992 she worked as a Secretary in the Housekeeping Department of El Camino Hospital and in 1994, she worked as Administrative Assistant at Greenstein, Rogoff, Olsen’s CPA Firm in Menlo Park, California until she fully retired. From 2012-2022, she suffered from Alzheimer’s Disease until the time of death on March 23, 2022.
Erline was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, John Milton Snider, Jr., her mother, Essie Ellen Lunceford Payne in 1982, her father, Leslie Everett Payne in 1954, and her brothers, Rev. Dr. John B. Payne in 2016, and Thomas Byrd Payne in 2000. She is survived by their children: daughter, Katherine (and Jose) Rodriguez and their children Jessica, Nicholas, and Nathanial of Mountain House, CA and son Daniel (and Leilani, her children Leila Joy, Larry and her grandchildren Nevaeh, Ayden and Loela) of Tracy, CA.
Erline’s life in Christ began with her baptism. It was sustained through God’s Word and Sacraments which Erline heard and received at area Lutheran Congregations over the years and at the Lutheran Church of our Savior of which she has been a member since 1994. It now continues eternally in heaven from where her soul eagerly awaits the resurrection of her body, which, on Wednesday, April 13, was laid to rest at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery of Dixon, California.
