Tribute

Evelie Marie (Terra) Grebil passed away on March 8, 2023, after a brief illness. Evelie was born on February 4, 1940, in Stockton, California to Jose and Evelyn Terra. A lifelong Tracy resident, Evelie was raised in Banta and attended Banta Elementary School. She graduated from Tracy High School in 1957 where she played the clarinet and was a song leader. She married her high school sweetheart Larry Grebil at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, and they soon began to raise a family.
Evelie was the consummate homemaker and mother. She sewed, was an avid knitter and crocheter, with “granny squares” being her signature item. At McKinley School she volunteered as a Room Mother, Librarian, and at the school’s annual carnival, where she was dubbed the “Popcorn Lady.” She also was awarded PTA Mother-of-the-Year. She was a regular at her children's and grandchildren’s sporting, scouting, musical, and theatrical events.
She also had an athletic and competitive side, participating in bowling leagues, city league softball and mush ball teams, and various card groups. She water skied, and later took up golf in her early 30s, starting with the 9-hole Happer Hackers, then joining the Ladies 18-hole group. She also golfed with Larry and her children on weekends and traveled to golf courses all over the world. She enjoyed attending San Francisco 49er games.
She loved spending time with her family and friends, playing cards, board games, and assembling puzzles. She looked forward to family outings, mainly trips to Pacific Grove. She organized a monthly luncheon with some of her oldest and dearest friends, “the Lunch Ladies,” and loved chatting and catching up with what was going on with them and their families.
She worked at the Tracy Camera shop while in high school and developed a love for photography that continued for many years. She worked at several of the family-owned businesses, including the Texaco Mini-Mart, the Old Douglas Market, and Sunset Liquors. She also was a Tupperware lady and more recently sold Mary Kay products. She worked at Farmers Insurance Group as a Customer Service Rep, and before her retirement, thoroughly enjoyed meeting and greeting people at Nicholson Chiropractic.
She is survived by her children, Daniel Grebil (Lynn), Lori Grebil Vanderlee (Doug), Kathleen Villela (Doug); grandchildren Matthew (Anamarisa) Grebil, Nathan Grebil, Andrew Grebil, Jessica Villela, and Alexis Villela; siblings Mary Ann Simas, Rosemarie Bacchetti (Nat), Loraine Terra, Linda Dodge (Bruce), Joe Terra, and Eileen Stent (Gary); numerous nieces and nephews, one aunt, and numerous cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Larry Grebil Sr., and son Larry Grebil Jr.
The family would like to thank the ICU staff at Sutter Tracy Community Hospital.
