Gordon Mackey passed away in his home on September 14th at 94 years old. He had spent his final days surrounded by his loved ones. Gordon was born November 13, 1925 in Geary, Oklahoma to Arthur and Orpha Mackey. He was the third out of four children. Gordon married his wife Helen Mackey on October 21, 1961 in Santa Rosa. She preceded him in death on July 12, 2015. They were married for 53 years.
Gordon was a long time Tracy resident and retired from Laura Scudders after 23 years. His hobbies included fishing, camping for a month at Mammoth Lakes every August, and rooting for his Oklahoma Sooners. Gordon enjoyed having coffee with his buddies every morning at McDonalds. For many years, Gordon walked five miles a day. Due to his healthy lifestyle and Gods grace, Gordon survived two open heart surgeries, at 49 and 62 years of age, and survived a major accident which involved being hit by a car while on his daily walk at 88 years old. Gordon had a strong relationship with the Lord and led singing at church for many years. He was a member of the Tracy Church of Christ.
Gordon is survived by his brother Nelson Mackey of Bakersfield, his son J.W. Mackey of Tracy, his daughter Jill Scaffidi of Tracy, his two granddaughters Kelsey Vargas of Tracy and Jaime Bacon of Hanford and his two great-grandchildren Ryan and Chloe Bacon.
Gordon is remembered as being a kind and gentle man. He was very loved by his family and will be greatly missed.
