Gurjit Singh Gill

Gurjit Singh Gill, 92, died on Thursday, September 15, 2022 in Tracy, California. He was born in India on October 1, 1929. He was a Pay & Accounts Officer for the Federal Government in India for 35 years before retiring.

After years of traveling from India to California to spend time with family, Gurjit moved to Mountain House less than a year ago to be close to his family.

It is unimaginable, to sum up in a few words how much our grandfather mattered to our family and how his kindness, strength, and selflessness set the core values and solid foundation upon which the entire family built themselves.  

Daddy went through much in his long 93 years of life whether it was wars, the loss of his father at a young age, the Sikh genocide, or the pandemic to name a few and in all these challenging circumstances he didn’t once complain or asked for help but rather continued to serve his family and the community with bravery and kindness. 

He was a force to be reckoned with, you had to know him to understand how he commanded a room in which he walked and how much of a natural leader he was to which everyone turned for guidance. He was known for his kind smile, his gentle soul, his endless love for family, and all those who had the privilege of knowing him. His hugs were the best, his laugh even better, and his love for cheeseburgers and fries the most amusing. Our grandfather was walking, yet the remarkable irony of a man. He was the strongest of men with the heart of a child, he was rooted in tradition but an advocate of feminism and the need for constant evolution, he was quick to anger but even quicker to smile. A purer soul has not graced the earth and heaven surely isn’t prepared to be blessed with an amazing man such as our grandfather. Waheguru knows how lucky we truly were.

Traditional Sikh Prayer Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. at Fry Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, September 21, 2022. Sehaj Paath Bhog is immediately following prayers at Gurdwara Gur Nanak Parkish
