Hubert Ray Allen, 88, passed away on Saturday, September 15, 2018. He was born at the family home in Alex, Oklahoma, on September 10, 1930, and moved with his family to Oakland, California, in 1937.
Hubert, known as “John,” married his wife of 62 years, Edna, in 1956, and they relocated to Tracy, California, in 1970.
John retired from Owens Illinois Glass Plant after 46 years of work as a cold end supervisor. He made many friends during his working days and kept in contact with them even after his retirement. He was a big racetrack fan and could often be found with a “green sheet” tucked in his pocket. John also enjoyed camping and fishing trips with family and his friends of many years.
John was very active in the Tracy Lodge of the Loyal Order of the Moose. A member for over 34 years, he volunteered a lot of his time there after retirement. John could also be found sitting on the sidelines and cheering his grandchildren on in their sports games. He enjoyed his time with family and was a very special “Papa” to everyone.
He is survived by his loving wife, Edna Allen; son, Brian Allen & wife Carol of Manteca; and daughter Michele Hayes & husband Eric of Tracy. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Joshua Paris, Marissa Leon, Lyndsey Hayes-Nye, Jessica Robles, Shane Hayes, Taylor Allen, Morgan Clements and Addisyn Allen; and 10 great-grandchildren, Ethan Leon, Jacob Paris, Caleb Leon, Emma Paris, Brooklyn Leon, Hudson Nye, Zeke Hayes, Remi Clements, Nixon Nye and Sebastian Hayes.
John was preceded in death by his daughter Belinda Allen.
Fry Memorial Chapel, 550 South Central Avenue, is honored to serve the Allen Family. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 28, 2018. Mr. Allen will be laid to rest immediately afterward at Tracy Public Cemetery.
