Jashumatiben H. Patel

Jashumatiben Patel was born in Dandeswar near Navsari on Jan 23, 1936. She passed on peacefully surrounded by her loved ones, with God’s name on her lips on December 29th 2018 just few days shy of her 83rd birthday.

She was raised and brought up by her parents Jiviben and Lakhabhai in Pathradiya. She completed her 7th grade education in Nizar. After her marriage to Hirabhai Patel she moved to Saroli and eventually found her new home in Atul, Gujarat. Despite scant resources and limited education, she dedicated her life to raising and educating six children and several nieces and nephews. She became the pillar of Dr. H. P. Patel family. She stood tall with confidence and limitless love. She was an outstanding communicator who spoke the language of kindness that ‘Deaf could hear and blind could see’. Her genuine interest in and concerns for others earned her lots of friends and their respect.

She was an excellent cook, loved Garba and Bhajans. She did not have academic accolades or material success but still became an iconic figure of Atul, “Jashumasi”. Her heart and home were always open to all.

She took pride in helping people whose needs were more than hers. She shared and gave freely and often. Generosity, giving and togetherness were her second nature and she imparted the same values to her entire family. She valued family growth and relationship over individual achievements.

She lived a life of an exemplary mother, wife and friend. She was an outstanding individual who derived her strength from religious faith. Even during her last few days of life, after accepting hospice care, she focused her energy on guiding the family to help others.

She is survived by six children, Ramila, Usha, Sunil, Pravin, Rajiv and Niyanta, three daughters-in-law Bhagi, Uru and Jayu, two Sons-in-law Gordhan and Umesh, eight grandchildren Kuntal, Jigu, Shivam, Meera, Nirali, Niraj, Shivani, Dhruv and three great grandchildren.

Her life will continue to guide the Patel / Punjya family for generations to come.
