Jimmie Ruth Lankford, 92, was born November 26, 1927 in Roswell, New Mexico to Cora A. (Boykin) and Colley T. Ezzell. She passed away on August 31, 2020 in the home that her Husband and Father built in 1948; the lumber was all reclaimed wood from WWII, which they were proud.
She attended school in her hometown and became a bride at 17 when her and her future Husband, John H. Lankford eloped to Cheyenne Wyoming. They celebrated 67 years of marriage together before his passing in 2012, their devoted union will now continue. Shortly into the marriage, she became an Army wife for 2 years, which she was very proud. While her Husband was serving our country, she remained in Roswell, working and waiting for his return.
In 1948 they moved to Modesto, California until their home was finished. The family was now three; a daughter was born in Roswell.
She was a stay at home mother, a role she loved. Before her fourth grandchild was born she worked at K-Mart. She liked this because she worked in the baby department, she thought everything was just what her granddaughter needed.
Her and her husband made a yearly trip to Diamond Lake Oregon for a month. They fished and she would can fish in their camper. We would all enjoy the fish.
She was active in Manteca Rebekah Lodge, she held various offices, and she was noble grand. She did travel within California, also going to Grants Pass, Oregon. Camping, fishing and hunting was a high priority-Her favorite place “Dardanelles” above Sonora. There were no RV’s you slept on the ground in a tent. A lot of good memories were made.
They were active with the “CD” (Citizen Band Radio) Club- Their names were “Blue Dog” and “Shorty” They made many lifelong friends. There was a large reunion each year on different towns in California.
She is preceded in death by husband John Lankford; parents C.T. and Cora Ezzell; Sisters Cora Wheeler and Versie Baxley.
Survived by daughter Agnes Webb, and husband Gene of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho Six Grandchildren. Matthew Webb of Manteca, California, Angela Balken (John) of Mill River North Carolina, LD (Naomi), Colbert, Washington, Andrea Woempner (Dale) of Rathdrum, Idaho, Abigail Webb of Mill Hall, Pennsylvania and Hoyt Webb of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, 10 Great Grandchildren and 3 Great-Great Grandchildren.
Fry Memorial Chapel, 550 South Central Avenue, is honored to serve the family. Graveside services will be held at East Union Cemetery, 1035 North Union Road, Manteca at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 3, 2020.
