Joan M. Fell

Joan Fell, a long-term resident of Tracy, California who was known and loved by many, passed away on January 21, 2023.  Joan was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri. While attending University of Missouri she met her future husband and love of her life, Jason Fell.  Joan and Jay were married in June of 1971 and lived in Missouri, Tennessee, and Illinois.  While living in Illinois and they were blessed with a daughter, Julie in October of 1976.

During a vacation to California in 1977, Jay decided he wanted to leave the Midwest and move to sunny California. In true Joan fashion, she told him they could move but only after he found a job.  Two weeks later he had found a job and Joan and Julie boarded a plane for San Francisco to meet Jay in San Carlos, CA. In 1980, the family moved to Tracy, CA and in November of that year were blessed with a son, Joel.

Over the next 43 years, they made a beautiful life for their family in Tracy, CA.  After 26 years of service at Tracy Unified School District, Joan retired from her position as Career Technician at West High.  She truly enjoyed being able to mentor students through high school and beyond graduation.

A longtime parishioner of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, Joan enjoyed teaching CCD and VBS for many years.  She served as an original Board Member of the Boys and Girls Club of Tracy and on the board for the McHenry House.  Recently, Joan spent time as the Secretary of the VFW Auxiliary of Tracy.

Joan loved gardening and being a member of the Tracy Garden Club.  When not busy volunteering her time, she enjoyed traveling, shopping at her favorite thrift stores, a great cup of coffee (just like her own mother did and both her children do) and spending time with friends.  Joan always loved being able to see a familiar face wherever she went around town.  However, her greatest joy was getting to watch her beautiful family grow alongside Jay!  After 52 years of marriage, she is survived by her husband Jason Fell, her children Julia Fell Andersen, Joel Fell (Brooke), her grandchildren Tristan Andersen, Mason Andersen, Charlise Fell, Hayden Fell, Morgan Gant, Madison Gant, brother Gary Wilbers (Enedina), sister-in-law Jerry Lenox, many nieces, nephews, numerous cousins, and lifelong friends who were like family.

A Prayer Service will be held on Monday, February 13, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Fry Memorial Chapel. She will be laid to rest privately at Valpico Memorial Park. Chapel services will be live-streamed via her tribute page at www.frymemorialchapel.com An online guest book is also available for condolences and special messages to the family.
