On Monday, August 16, 2021, John “Jack” Abercrombie, Jr., a devoted husband and father, passed away at the age of 88 in Tracy, California. Jack was born on June 30, 1933, in Lawrence, Massachusetts to John and Phyllis (Snow) Abercrombie. On August 15, 1957, he married Priscilla Fenton in Andover, Massachusetts. Together they raised three children.
Jack graduated from Punchard High School in Andover, Massachusetts in 1951 and from Phillips Academy in Andover in 1952. He served in the U.S. Army in the 2nd armored division in West Germany from 1954-1955. He graduated from Boston University with a B.A. in business administration in 1958 and from the University of Connecticut in 1972 with his MBA.
He worked for Bendix Corp, Raytheon Corp, Sylvania Corp, and Xerox Corp, where he worked for 27 years. When he retired from there, he became the owner/operator of Minuteman Press in Santa Rosa, CA for 12 years.
Jack was always very involved in the communities in which he lived including coaching Pony and Colt Baseball in Arcadia, California for several years, even after his son stopped playing. In 1989, he and Priscilla moved to Santa Rosa. He was active in Rotary Club where he served as club secretary for 11 years. In addition he served leadership roles in Sonoma County Taxpayers Association, and on the Oakmont Village Association Board of Directors.
He is preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and two nephews. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Priscilla, three children-Janet (Gordon) Lowe of Morse Bluff, NE, Steve (Pam) Abercrombie of Tracy, and Nancie (Chris) Block of New Hope, MN, eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Jack was a die-hard fan of all Boston sports teams-Bruins, Celtics, Patriots, and most especially, the Red Sox. When they finally won the World Series in 2004 after a long drought, he told his daughter that he never thought it would happen in his lifetime. He was able to see them win it three more times after that.
Jack will be deeply missed by his family. A private service will be held at a later date at St. Patrick’s Church in Kenwood, California. Memorials can be made to The American Cancer Society or to the VITAS Hospice in Tracy.
