Mae Joyce Harges

Mrs. Mae J. Harges was born MaJoyce O’Neil Noble on March 14th 1934 in Bonita, LA to William H. Noble & Viliner Noble. She loved to cook & bake for her family. Mae Joyce was a member of Saint Luke Baptist Church in Bonita, LA where she was baptized and accepted Christ at an early age.
She moved to Chicago, IL in 1955 where she met and married Samuel Harges in 1957, who preceded her in death. Mae Joyce worked at Louis Weiss Memorial Hospital for several years before she relocated to Oakland, CA to be closer to her mother & siblings in 1986. While in Oakland, Mae Joyce worked at Summit Medical Center where she retired in 1999. In 2017, Mae Joyce moved to Lathrop, CA to live with her daughter Sandia Harges. While living in Lathrop, she united with Glory Worship Center Church of God In Christ in Manteca, CA.
Mae Joyce loved her family and enjoyed being around her children, Grands, & Great-Grands. She enjoyed baking pound cakes and pies during the holidays. She loved to travel and when she was not traveling, mom would exercise at the gym at least 3 days a week. Mom was sassy and had no problems letting you know about a mediocre cake or pie. Her favorite saying when one of us attempted to bake or cook something like her was “It ain’t hitting on nothing.”
Mae Joyce was the mother of 5 children, 4 daughters Bobbie Jean Milton (preceded her in death Oakland, CA), Yvonne Dianne Smith (Bastrop, LA) Geraldine Harges (Chicago, IL) Sandia Harges (Lathrop, CA) and 1 son Frederick Harges (Chicago, IL). 12 Grandchildren, Lasha Williams, William Murphy II, Martine Murphy (preceded her in death), Bobby Smith Jr. (Shay) Brandy Smith Stephens (Willie), Dr. Keona Childs, Jerel Childs, Jerrod Childs, Pariss Sykes (Alex) Derrick S. Sykes (Lauren) Alysse Harges & Zoe Harges. 15 Great Grands, and 2 Great-Great Grandchildren (one who preceded her in death.)
Mae Joyce will be dearly missed by everyone who loved and knew her including: siblings David Noble, William Noble II, Esther Noble, Ruby Jean Noble Gray (Herman) Veatrice Noble and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family & friends.. Her siblings Claude Ollie Noble (Eula), Charles Edward Noble and Joe Nathan Noble preceded her in death.
