Maria Refugio Martinez Age 82, passed away Sunday December 24th, 2017.
She is survived by her son Andres, daughters Laura and Bertha, eleven grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren. Maria was preceded in death by her son Antonio and granddaughters Claudia and Andrea.
Maria was born in Tuxpan Nayarit Mexico, she moved to Tracy in 1960 where she became a farm worker. She worked all the seasonal local crops. She also would cook at the migrant labor camps where she learned how to cook in bulk for large crowds. Maria would make large batches of enchiladas and tamales for her relatives.
She enjoyed celebrating with her family and friends. She made friends easily and helped many people throughout her life. Maria always opened her home to any one in need of a place to stay. She loved to take trips to Mexico with her son Antonio and enjoyed gambling at the local casinos. Her grandkids will miss the cookouts at grandma’s house.
Visitation will be observed from 2 to 9 p.m. Thursday, January 4, 2018, at Fry Memorial Chapel, 550 South Central Avenue, and a rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. On Friday, January 5th, a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, 163 West Eaton Avenue, followed immediately by graveside services at Tracy Cemetery, 501 E.
