Marvin Roger Foster was welcomed into our Lord’s home November 22, 2021 at the age of 87. Marvin passed peacefully in his home of 64 years in Tracy with his loving wife by his side. Born 2/19/1934 in Fort Collins Colorado to Orville and Dorothy (Munn) Foster. In 1940 the family moved to Oakland California and then Tracy in 1950 where Oroville ran a plastering company and owned The Freezer restaurant. In 1960 Marvin helped his father build the Copper Cat restaurant that he still owns and remains open across from Tracy High School. Marvin graduated in 1952 from THS and played basketball, track and then went to Delta College where his basket team won the state championship in 1954. Marvin’s father also passed along his passion of Mining and the family still holds several claims in the Mariette Reserve near Hawthorne Nevada. Marvin’s sons and grandchildren and great-grandchildren still make annual trips to the mines keeping that mining fever alive. Marvin married is true love Lorraine Carol (Ratto) Foster in 1954. Together they raised their four boys in Tracy. Marvin was a dedicated father passing along his high morals and values of a Christian man and his love of sports, hunting, fishing and the outdoors. Marvin made several hunting and fishing trips with his sons, grandsons and granddaughters to Colorado, Idaho, New Mexico, Arizona and the beautiful California Sierras. He was an active member of Saint Bernard’s church as the athletic director, basketball coach and helping with many Saint Bernard’s festivals. Marvin and Lorraine enjoyed many years of retirement and found great pride and joy watching their grandchildren participate in sports, 4-H, and FFA. His grandchildren could always hear him cheering from the bleachers. After graduating from THS Marvin was employed by the Tracy Press, worked for his parents at The Freeze, drove a bread truck for 10 years and then retired after 30 years and LLNL’s Site 300 Marvin and Lorraine traveled many miles with friends in their travel trailer to Canada, Palm Springs and along the California West Coast. Marvin and Lorraine have been long time members of Tracy Elks, Moose Lodge, Elkhorn Travelers and Breakfast Lions. Marvin was awarded the Elk of the year in 02-03. Marvin was preceded in death by his oldest son Marvin Roger Foster JR and leaves 3 loving sons and their families, Dr. Michael and Carrie (Whitney) Foster, Mark A and Aimee (Zerr) Foster and Mathew and Debra (Dixon) Foster. Together Marvin and Lorraine have 5 grand daughters and 7 grandsons, and the great grandkids number is still rising at 25 with 2 on the way. Services will be held Friday December 3rd. Rosary will be held at Frys Memorial Chapel at 9:30 with Catholic services following at Saint Bernard’s Church at 11am and reception at The Farm Center on Roberts Island at 1pm.
