Mary Janice Martin

Tribute

Mary J. Martin entered this world on December 23, 1940 to the late Mary Jackson and Tommy Mathews of Arkansas. Mary relocated to California in 1960 were she worked as a respected cook in various five-star restaurants and hotels throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. Mary loved children and was a life-long childcare provider for many children, including those in the church family.

Mary gave her life to Christ at a young age. On November 7, 1982, she re-dedicated her life to the Lord and never looked back. Mary became a member of the East Palo Alto Church of God under the leadership of Pastor Horace Sheppard Jr, then later under the leadership of Pastor Paul Sheppard of Destiny Christian Fellowship. Mary loved working in the church as a stewardess, serving as the senior usher for 15 years. Many children knew if Sister Martin caught you talking or chewing gum during service, only God could help them, because their parents would not. Mary was highly respected and loved by all.

Mary was proceeded in death by her parents, one daughter Joyce Thomas, four sisters; twins Linda K Nelson and Linda Mae Porter, Eddie B. Rideout, Dorothy Clary and brother, Charles Edward Clary.

Mary leaves to cherish in her memory two daughters Annette Martin (Leon) Gibson of Seattle, Washington and Doris Ann Wimberly of Arkansas. Also, three sisters; Shirley Ann Clary, Louise Clary, Zenobie White and three brothers; Ronnie Clary, Ed Willie Clary and James Odis Clary, all of Arkansas. Two grandchildren; Jeffrey Thomas of Little Rock, Arkansas and Troy Gipson of Seattle, Washington. Mary also leave to cherish longtime friend and god sister: Naomi Walton, godchildren; Lawanda Walton (Eric and Josiah) Omar Ishaq, and Patty Rahmer, and God niece Patrona (Cookie) Davis along with a host of nieces and nephews.
Service will be held at Fry Memorial Chapel on Tuesday, May 8, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be held at Tracy Public Cemetery following services at 11:00 a.m.
