Mary Stuber of Tracy, CA, passed on Tuesday, August 21, 2018, at 12:15 pm with loved ones by her side at her daughter’s home from complications related to dementia/Alzheimer’s. Born in Fallon, Nevada, on January 21, 1935, to parents James and Ivy Kerr, she was raised by Uncle Albert and Aunt Eva Rogers, whom she called Mom and Dad. She was married to Herbert Marshall Moore in 1952 and Russell Stuber in 1973, all of whom preceded her to heaven.
Mary was also preceded in death by siblings Bartholomew Kerr, Lara Reed, Clara Rowe, Leona Walker, Peggy White, Lois Mantuan, Ralph Kerr, and George Kerr; daughter-in-law Valerie Moore; and her beloved Boston terriers, Toby and Katie. She is survived by her children, Steven Moore (Christina), Susan Carmona (Rudy), and Mike Moore; six grandchildren, Sandie Reece, Jennifer Kimberly, Danny Carmona, Sarah Moore, Steven Moore, and Melissa Moore; along with seven great-grandchildren. Mary is also survived by her sister Helen Warren (John).
Mary attended San Joaquin Delta College’s Nursing Program and graduated in June 1965. She was a well-loved nurse at San Joaquin County General Hospital and Tracy Memorial Hospital. She began her career at Eaton Ave. Medical Group in 1967 and worked with Dr. John Hume. She retired after 35 years. Mary had the respect and admiration of everyone she worked with. Even many years past her retirement, former patients in the community recognized her as their “angel,” and every single time she went into town to run errands, she would be hugged and doted on by people in her community.
Mary led an active, incredible life and lived in the same neighborhood for 50 years. In her younger years, she and best friend Shirley Anderson were a part of the Republican Women’s group, and she was active in the First Presbyterian Church for many years. Most incredibly, she was widowed very young with three small children and persevered. She went to school and worked simultaneously to support three kids, all the while ensuring they had a normal childhood of camping, raising animals, and being a family. Mary was a true friend to all who knew her, be it neighbor, family, or co-worker — known as selfless and dedicated to all those around her.
Mary had a love and appreciation for travel and enjoyed taking cruises around the world with her husband and friends. She was quite the dancer and could cut a rug like no one else, the life of the party in any social situation. Her gardens and the birds that came to visit and nest there brought her joy, minus the pesky crows or blackbirds who taunted her little birds — they were not exempt from a water hose eviction. Mary and her husband were both devoted grandparents. She made sure every day with them was an adventure, planning day trips and adventures in her big backyard and rising at the crack of dawn to squeeze fresh orange juice from her trees for them.
Memorial Services for Mary Will be held on at 11:00 am on September 15, 2018 at the First Presbyterian Church, 101 Berverdor Ave, Tracy. Mary will be laid to rest privately at Tracy Mausoleum.
