Michael Henry Gomez better known as “POPPY” of Tracy, CA, passed away at home surrounded by family on April 30, 2018, at the age of 73.
Michael was born on May 31, 1944 in Salinas, CA, son of Antonia “Toni” Juarez and Henry Linarez. He was raised by his grandparents Fermina and Benigno Gomez in Colusa, CA, and moved to Tracy, CA at the age of 18. Where he would meet and marry the love of his life for the next 55 years.
Michael is survived by his wife Patricia Gomez, two daughters, Tamara Taula husband Hardy Taula of Tracy, Kimberlee Pringle husband Antoine Pringle of Stockton. Seven grandchildren Miguel Barriga, Benigno Romero, Daniel Romero, Estrella Barriga, Michael Romero, Pilar Barriga, Fatumaleeleele Taula, twelve great grandchildren and six siblings.
Michael was a simple but hardworking man and loved his family and would make friends everywhere he went. He retired from Tracy Schools after 27 years. He loved spending time in his backyard gardening, restoring furniture and playing with his four poodles. He also spent time making jewelry, playing his guitar, working on his boat and restoring his Classic 36 Buick that he called “Crusin Baby”.
Michael is preceded in death by his mother Antonia Juarez and father Henry Linarez, and great granddaughter Jada Romero.
Visitation, services and a celebration of life for Michael “Poppy” Gomez at Fry Memorial Chapel located in Tracy on Saturday, May 12, 2018 between 1pm-5pm with a rosary at 3pm. His final service will be held at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Tracy Monday, May 14, 2018 at 10:30am following with gravesite services at Tracy Public Cemetery.
