Tribute

August 15, 1927 † April 3, 2018

This is the story of Nellie Robles Garcia. Our mother was an amazing wife, mom, daughter, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She will be forever remembered by her family and friends.
Our mother’s story begins in 1927 in Dietz, Wyoming, a small coal mining and railroad town. She was the only child of Cayetano Robles and Marciana Zabala. After the passing of her father, Mom’s mother married Pablo Zabala, whom she loved as a father.
Eventually, her family moved to Los Angeles, California, where she attended local schools. It was in Jimtown, Whittier, California, that she married her husband of 56 years, John Melchor Garcia (“Champ”). In 1951, we moved to Tracy after our dad found employment at Heinz 57. Mom and Dad crammed their four young children and belongings into a car headed on a new adventure. Our parents soon realized that Tracy was the perfect place to raise their family.
Our beloved mother passed away peacefully Tuesday, the 3rd of April, at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Loved ones who will miss their mother until they meet again are her children Katie Marquez (Allen) of Lompoc, Ronald Garcia of Stockton, John Garcia (Jeannine) of Carmichael, and Irene Nevarez (Rudy), Nancy Jimenez (Larry), Cynthia Garcia, and Lora Garcia, all of Tracy. Granny will also be fondly remembered by her 23 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren, and 14 great-great-grandchildren. Our mother also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition, our mother is survived by three sisters, Esther Guzman, Sarah Valencia (David), and Marylou Radcliff (Charles), and a brother, David Zabala (Lydia). She was preceded in death by her husband, John, her parents, and eight siblings.
Fry Memorial Chapel, 550 South Central Avenue, Tracy, is honored to serve the Garcia family. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, April 16. Funeral services will follow in the chapel on Tuesday, April 17, at 11:00 a.m., with graveside services following at Tracy Public Cemetery.
