Tribute

Robert Mehlhaff, devoted husband, father and grandfather, passed away on Monday, March 29, 2021 at the age of 72 after contracting Covid-19.

Bob was born on May 12, 1948 in Friedrichshoff, Germany to Waldemar and Vera Mehlhaff. After immigrating to California at the age of four, Bob went on to graduate from the University of California at Berkeley, and he received his law degree from San Francisco Law School. He began his career in Tracy at the law firm of Souza, Coates, McInnis, and Mehlhaff. Bob practiced law in Tracy for over forty years, specializing in water rights for the farming community in San Joaquin County. As a community servant, Bob held leadership positions on the Tracy Elementary School District Board of Directors and congressional leadership for St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Tracy and St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church in Stockton.

Bob was known for his generosity and good humor. His family often joked that there wasn’t anyone in Northern California Bob didn’t know. Bob had a passion for guitar, which is how he met his wife, Mary Lynn Larsson Mehlhaff, when he gave her guitar lessons. They married on August 31, 1969, enjoying fifty-one years of marriage and raising three children.

Bob is survived by his wife Mary Lynn, his brother Arthur Mehlhaff, and the families of his three children, Jim Mehlhaff and fiancée Jennifer Clark, Kristin and Troy Welker, and Matt and Krista Mehlhaff. He will also be missed by his seven grandchildren, Ryan, Daniel, Jason, Tommy, Anna, Andrew and Amelia, as well as his extended family and friends.

A memorial service for Bob will be livestreamed online on April 10th at 10:30 am at www.stalc.org/live-streaming. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Mary’s Dining Room and Tracy Interfaith Ministries Food Banks.
