Surinder Jit Singh - Surinderjit Doger Pataria

Surinderjit “Doger” Pataria was born on June 15, 1955 in Patara, Punjab, to Pritam Kaur and Sewa Singh. The youngest of four children, he was his mother’s favorite. He spent his childhood in rural Punjab, working with his father on the family farm. His fondest memories are those of his time out in the fields, tilling the soil, growing wheat, corn, rice, sugarcane, and potatoes. As a single young man he traveled to Germany and Austria in 1981. He married his wife, Bavi Pataria, in 1983. He then began a career working in the Nagar Nigam municipal bus line as a conductor during the day, and the family farm in the evenings. He moved to the United States in 1993, with his wife and three young children. 
His first few years in California were arduous, but he persevered, purchasing his first home in 1997. He planted rose bushes in the front yard that bloom yearly to this day. His proudest achievement was putting his three children through college by working double shifts seven days a week at Ball Corporation. He also cared for his elderly father for over sixteen years, until his passing in 2017. Throughout his life, he continued to put his family first, and remained a loyal and loving husband, father, son, and brother. He enjoyed cooking, nature, gardening, walking his dog, and providing for his family. Those around him remember him as loyal, hard working, funny, and kind. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Baljinder “Bavi” Pataria, his son Manjit Singh, his daughters Khushmanjit Singh, and Dr. Navinderjit Singh, her husband Dr. Aaron Kinney, and his brother Balvinder Singh. He is predeceased by his brothers Mohinder Singh and Vikram Singh and his mother and father. 
May he rest in peace. His light will live on through his family.
