Theresa Lydia Vasquez

Theresa Lydia Vasquez passed away on March 25th, 2024. She was just 76 years old and surrounded by loved ones when she passed.

She spent her life in her beloved hometown of Tracy. She was as boisterous and outspoken as she was kind and loving, and managed to make friends with people wherever she went.

Theresa enjoyed cooking for friends and loved ones, playing cards at the kitchen table, and weekend trips to Lake Tahoe where she was always up for going to casinos to hit the slots. Affectionately known as ‘T’ or ‘Big T,’ she was known for cracking jokes with everyone, even at her own expense. She expressed her artistic talents by creating cartoon character Christmas decorations and making superhero illustrations for the children around her.

She was predeceased by her parents, Alexander and Juanita Cardiel, her sisters, Lydia Cardiel, Carnation Cardiel, Betty Liendo and Ophelia Chaparro, and her sons, Alex Sanchez, and Jesse Sanchez.

Theresa is survived by her brother, Andrew Cardiel of Springdale, Arkansas, her husband of 43 years, Joe Vasquez of Tracy, her daughters Felice Peralta of Tracy and Valerie Posas of Roseville, her sons, Michael Garibay of Oakland, and Jimmy Vasquez of Livermore, and many beloved nieces and nephews.

She leaves behind her pride and joy, her grandchildren, Joshua and Jacob Peralta, Zachary Garibay, Alicia and Maximilliano Vasquez, Krystal Filarski, Frankie Ambriz Jr., and Vanesa and Kara Borges.

Funeral arrangements are under the care of Fry Memorial Chapel, 550 South Central Avenue, Tracy. A Rosary will be held in the chapel at 9:00 am on Tuesday April 9th with visitation beginning the hour prior. A Mass of Christian burial will follow at 11:00 am at St. Bernards Catholic Church, 163 West Eaton Avenue, Tracy. She will be laid to rest at Tracy Public Cemetery, with reception immediately following.
